Coming Soon: American Thermidor (Hint: It's Not A Movie)

It's just over a year that Joseph R. Biden, Jr. was sworn in as President of the United States. It has been a very rough year for Joe and his Vice President, Kamala (Momala) Harris. Nothing seems to be going as planned, and the divided Senate has proven to be a major obstacle to the Biden administration. The Biden administration is under constant attack domestically and internationally.

Domestically, the government appears to be in near chaos and its popularity, according to various pollsters, is sinking daily to new lows. The southern border of the UniteStates seems to have evaporated as record numbers of "immigrants" cross the border illegally every day. They are coming not only from Central America but indeed from the whole world as it has become common knowledge that the border is open and illegal entry has no downside. Numerous entrants with criminal records have been apprehended, other have slipped through. Various news outlets are reporting that the illegal entrants are being flown to different parts of the country in apparently secret flights in an attempt to disperse them across the country. There is a border crisis despite what Jen Psaki and Alejandro Mayorkas say.

Over 900,000 Americans have now died from Covid. The nation appears to be on the verge of civil war as vaxxers and anti-vaxxers sue each other in courts. The lack of civility is alarming and the President, whose stance has been essentially correct in this matter, appears to be incapable of providing adequate leadership. Conflict over mask mandates further stoke the fires of unrest.

Inflation is at its highest in 30 years.. Currently at 7%, the ramifications of this has the potential to be disastrous. The federal deficit is out of control, the national debt is now at a new record, $30 Trillion. As recently at 2000, during the presidential debates between Al Gore and George W. Bush, the two candidates argued about what to do with the end of the debt and years of surplus. The terror attacks of Sep. 11, 2001 took care of that "problem" and the government has been spending recklessly since then. If interest rates rise, and they will, the federal deficit will grow tremendously as debt service costs will escalate. Mortgage rates affecting home buyers will rise spectacularly and we will be reminded of 18% mortgage rates during the Jimmy Carter and early Ronald Reagan presidencies. The very thought of this is mind boggling. Tremenous leverage is held against us by China (PRC) which is the largest creditor of the U.S. If they don't roll over their U.S. treasury bonds the demanded interest rate can rise astronomically with the Federal Reserve Board unable to respond without severe inflationary pressures. President Biden and his supporters tend to laugh off this problem and blame merchants and manufacturers as being greedy. The public understands that the massive increase in the money supply, the Fed balance sheet and fewer goods leads to increased demand and higher prices.

Race relations are on thin ice. Daily disputes over what should be taught in schools and parental involvement or non-involvement is a daily occurrence. President Biden must take proactive steps with effective leadership to solve a problem which should have been solved a hundred years ago. Does anyone know the name of the Secretary of Education? Is that Department involved in trying to remedy the problem of failing schools and the associated conflict? What is being done to improve community relations with various Police Departments? Daily inexcusable outrages continue against innocent people. This must be resolved urgently. America cannot afford discrimination against anybody on the basis of race religion, national origin or sexual orientation.

Then there is the issue of crime. The progressive or so called left wing of the Democratic Party, led by the "Squad" and its "Democratic Socialist" allies in both houses of the congress actively urge defunding of the police, support no bail for arrested individuals charged with crimes and apparently don't feel that robberies and similar crimes are worthy of prosecution. Stores in California are closing because of "shrinkage" and others are simply raising prices, passing on the cost of theft to legitimate consumers. Progressive Distrct Attorneys in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and New York County are all associated with the Democrat Party. Crime, including murder is on a scale not seen in many years and blaming Covid for it just will not work. The voters will have something to say about this.

Internationally, the major threats to the U.S. are the PRC and Russia, the rump U.S.S.R. Russia, at this moment, is threatening to invade Ukraine and NATO is passive. Biden has transferred 3,000 American troops to Eastern Europe, PRC has pledged support to Russia and the U.S. faces either isolation or a shooting war. Russia and PRC stoke the fires of international unrest by supporting nuclear seeking Iran and North Korea as surrogates to further threaten the U.S.

The above cited problems didn't develop overnight but neglect will not solve them. The citizenry is enraged and a severe reaction against the incumbent administration may be expected. The excesses of the French Revolution led to the Thermidorian reaction and the downfall and execution of Robespierre who was responsible for the reign of terror. It will occur here in November 2022 as the voters go to the polls. Currently, it seems the voters will hand the legislative branch of government to the Republican Party. That would leave the Biden administration in a lame duck status with over two years of its tenure still to come. The Democrat Party should take note of these issues. This blog is non-partisan and seeks the best for the country. Hopefully, both parties will recognize the importance of these issues and work in a bipartisan manner to solve them. Otherwise, gridlock will happen and the situation will only get worse. Election Day 2022 will be a turning point in American history. Which way it turns is up to the American people. Political parties and politicians please take note.
