Quote of the Day

I came across the following Chinese proverb while reading Barbara W.

Tuchman’s Book “Stillwell and the American Experience in China,

1911-1945”. As the center of gravity in world affairs moves to Asia and

China has risen to be the main competitor of the United States, this

proverb is indeed thought provoking.

“A hundred victories in a hundred battles is not the

best of the best. The best of the best is to subdue

the enemy without fighting.”

As America faces numerous challenges throughout the world, particularly

after an ignominious departure from Afghanistan which demeans the

prestige and integrity of America and its foreign policy, thinking people

would do well to focus on the above quote and understand its

significance.
