Starmer is NOT Churchill

Sir Keir Starmer, the current British Prime Minister is a mere shadow of what British Prime Ministers were. But then, the British empire no longer exists and the United Kingdom, a member of the so called United Nations Security Council, can no longer be considered a first rate power and maybe not even a third rate nation. True, the UK possesses nuclear weapons

but its influence on the world stage is close to negligible. The major news events from that country which arouse interest at home and abroad are reports of the peccadilloes of various members of the “royal” family, namely the former Prince Andrew, now styled Mr. Andrew Mountbatten- Windsor and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who have lost the honorific of being called their royal highnesses as they struggle to remain in the public eye and on Netflix.

Andrew, despite the actions of his brother, King Charles IIII, remains the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Whatever the “palace’ may decree, he remains a prince and is still the King’s brother. So this is just some stupid royal charade. More serious are the words and actions of PM Starmer who increasingly comes across as some sort of bungling fool whose tenure as PM is doomed as his personal unpopularity reaches new heights daily along with falling poll numbers for the Labour Party. True, they have a strong majority in the House of Commons but declining poll numbers and loss of safe Labour seats in by-elections may increase pressure for the Commons dissolution and new early elections.

Let’s look at some of Sir Keir’s recent comments on the current Iran war:

“We believe that the best way forward for the region and the world is a negotiated settlement”

“Britain’s national interest comes first”

“This government does not believe in regime change from the skies”

“While taking the necessary action to defend ourselves and our allies, we will not be drawn into

the wider war”.

These heinous comments are despicable. Imagine  if a US president had made such remarks of indifference when the UK had its backs to the wall and was under existential threat. But the US never behaved so. To this day, eighty-one years after the end of World War II, ten to eleven thousand US military personnel are based in the UK. For what purpose? To defend whose national interest? A re-evaluation of these assignments of Americans is urgently required.

What has Sir Winston Churchill said when the UK was alone in Europe fighting for its national survival and existence against Nazi Germany? On the dark day of June 4, 1940, Churchill spoke the following in the House of Commons:

“I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty’s Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation. The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength. Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old”.

What noble and immortal words! There could be no thought of surrender nor any thought of negotiation with the evil of Nazi Germany. Similarly, today, who can seriously say that one can sit in the same room and negotiate with the murderers and tyrants of Tehran. Sir Keir fails miserably at this time when believers in freedom and democracy are called on to defeat and end an unacceptable tyranny and terrorist state practicing its mayhem amongst the nations of the world. Such behavior on the part of Iran is not acceptable. It never was and never will be. Oil will not absolve them despite Starmer and his European cohorts.
