Speeding on the Superhighway to Hell

It's less than two weeks to election day, November 3. Millions of ballots will be cast prior to that day as voters take advantage of early voting opportunities. Without being overly dramatic, the United States is on the superhighway to hell and is exceeding the speed limit. Drunken drivers, the two major political parties, must pull over and take the nearest exit ramp. It's not too late to avoid disaster. Each party still has a very limited amount of time to salvage American democracy. Both parties are being pulled to extremes by small but highly motivated and dedicated power hungry operators and activists who are only for themselves; the public be damned. They must be stopped before it's too late.

Both parties are being radicalized in different yet similar ways. The Democrats are facing an invasion by the extreme left which styles itself as the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). This movement has taken off since the Democratic Party allowed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to compete in their presidential primaries in 2016. Sanders identifies as an independent, though he caucuses with the senate democrats. He proposed a radical program in 2016 as he ran against Hillary Clinton for the democratic presidential nomination. His primary campaign successes gave him a substantial number of delegates to the party's national convention, enabling him to exert great influence on the platform committee, Mrs. Clinton lost the election to republican nominee Donald Trump. How much of her loss can be attributed to the leftist pull on the Democratic Party by Sen. Sanders and the DSA is hard to quantify, but certainly it had some effect; possibly tilting some states from the democrat column to the republican column in the Electoral College. Since then, Sanders and the DSA have been working full time to infiltrate, push the Democratic Party to the left and ultimately take control of the party. They have been succeeding beyond their wildest dreams. The political science term for these efforts is "entryism" and was formulated in the 1930s by Communist revolutionary Leon Trotsky who planned to take over the French Socialist Party. It should be noted that the American Communist Party, founded after World War I, had a legal above ground party and an underground organization which worked for the Soviet Union. The structure of the DSA gives us cause for concern. It has a National Convention which meets every two years and in the interim is directed by a 27 member National Political Committee. This seems to mimic the USSR Communist Party which had party congresses, a central committee and a ruling Politburo. The party exercises discipline over its members who are elected to public office. They are not free to represent their constituents but rather must follow the party line. Former Representative Jamaal Bowman (DSA-NY) visited Israel and also voted funds for the Israeli Iron Dome for which he was strongly condemned by the DSA. At the DSA National Convention in 2025, red lines were established for its members and endorsed officials, threatening expulsion for those who supported Israel's right to defend itself. This is the above ground DSA. Who knows what the below ground DSA is up to! Closely allied with the DSA is another "'party" called the Working Families Party. They masquerade as an independent political party but work with the DSA to push the Democratic Party further to the left. A particualrly outrageous act of the Working Families Party is to endorse candidates in the demcoratc primaries. In other words, they seek to control whom the democrats nominate.

Democratic Party strategist James Carville stated that he would rather see the House of Representatives with a five seat Republcan majority than a five seat Democratic majority as the DSA infiltrators in the democratic caucus would be in a position to make outrageous demands on Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) who would presumably be the House Speaker if the democrats win the house. Already, mainstream democratic leaders such as former presidential nominees Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris are catering to the DSA as they call for radical revision of the Constitution, a DSA meme. If Jeffries refuses the DSA demands, they could presumably oust him as Speaker as extreme repubicans did to former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Also facing attack is Senate democratic leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) . Schumer and Jeffries face challenges from the extreme left and the Democratic Party faces a major potential crisis next January if it , as expected, wins in the November midterms.

The Republican Party, currently the majority party in both houses, faces major problems of its own. The expected democrat victory in November may be of historic proportions, resembling their victory in 1958. If such a democrat victory occurs, the republicans may face being a minority party for a generation or more. Granted that the elections are in less than two weeks, there is little that they can do at this time. The question the GOP must answer is what kind of party do they want to be after President Trump's term ends on January 20, 2029. Assuming a democrat victory this November, he will be a term limited lame duck for the last two years of his presidency. Considering the leftist pull on the democrats and the rightist pull on the republcans, the saving grace for the country will be governmental gridlock; that still doesn't answer what the GOP wants to be in the future. In the 1950s and 60s the republicans faced their own entryist challenge from the extreme rightist John Birch Society which went so far as to denounce President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a card carrying member of the Communist Party. The Birch Society actually elected two membrs to Congress on the republican ticket, but they never succeeded beyond that. A political realignment occurred in the 1960s as the conservative democratic south moved into the republican party. The southern democrats were part of the national Democratic Party but really weren't. They represented the most reactionary and bigoted groups in the Democratic Party and now moved the GOP in that direction. Under the leadership of President Trump, the so called MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement has seized control of the GOP. President Trump's popularity has sunk to new lows in recent polls and the republicans find themselves desperately defending congressional and gubernatorial seats that have been republican for decades if not longer.

So what can we do to get off the super highway to hell before we all end up in hell? Every American bears responsibility and must consider the threat we face seriously. There is no place in America for Nazis, Fascists, Communists and Socialists. This post does not seek to discuss the virtues and vices of each of these tyrannies. Suffice it that we fought the first two in World War II and the latter two in the even longer Cold War. Democracy won both of those wars by force of arms and blood. There is no reason to stand by and give electoral victories to those who would destroy American democracy and freedom. Party loyalty is fine as long as the party stands for what it claims to historically be, The Democrats must stop their radical program and the republicans must do the same. Forget about which party you always supported, Now, the voters must stand for democracy and America. Don't vote for radical candidates even if they have your party's endorsement. The radical democrats are not democrats. The radical republicans are not republicans. The hour is late. Things are falling apart. Anarchy is being loosed upon the world The center must hold. There is much to be done. And God must truly bless America.
